SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING IN NORTH AMERICA |
The United States |
The United States boast an extraordinary alpine skiing and snowboarding potential. In the West of the country, the ski resorts are all located in the Rockies. The elevation of the pistes is usually quite high (between 2500 and 4000 m) and the climate is cold and dry. These two factors mean the quality of the snow is very good, especially in the off-piste areas. Vail and Aspen are the most well known ski resorts.
In the East of the country, the ski resorts are located in the Appalachians, where the conditions are fairly close to those we are used to in Europe. The Lake Placid resort is the most well known, in part thanks to the fact that it hosted twice the Winter Olympic Games.
Alaska is a unique region where the heliskiing possibilities are numerous.
