ALPINE SKI LESSONS: TRAVERSING |
Traversing |
| Skiing across the fall line is called traversing. It's not a hard technique, however a skier's traversing stance is often a tell-tale sign of his or her skiing ability. |

The traverse position |
As in the basic position, the knees are bent and rolled forwards, the upper body is straight and the arms spread out in front of you. In the traverse position however, the downhill ski must have a strong grip. For this reason, two aspects are important and really distinguish the traversing position from the basic position.
First of all, the body weight must be on the downhill ski, and as such, the upper body should be leaning towards the slope. The upper body can either face the direction you're taking or face completely or partly the slope (in anticipation).
What's more, the downhill knee is slightly rolled inwards to increase the edging angle and therefore increase the grip of the ski that is bearing all the weight. |
